Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement
On June 5, 2025, Nintendo will release the Switch 2.
Marques Brownlee on his YouTube channel reviewed the newest console from Nintendo in this video He provides a very detailed hands-on impression of the Switch 2.
The Switch 2 is a significant upgrade, with its larger screen, the ability to support up to 120 frames per second on some games, and 4K resolution when docked. There is also a new feature called GameChat, which Nintendo says allows groups of up to 12 people to chat while playing games.
The drawback? Starting price of the Switch 2 is set at $449, significantly higher than the original Switch. Game prices are also expected to be $80 or higher, which could cause other companies to raise the price of their games and scare potential buyers away. Additionally, the demo game for learning how to use the Switch 2 will be a paid title instead of being free.
The original Switch's battery life was estimated to be 2.5 - 6.5 hours, while later models managed to improve the battery life to 4.5 to 9 hours. It is definitely a let down to be taking a hit when it comes to the Switch 2 battery life, but it is possible future Switch 2 hardware will improve the console's battery life like it happened with the prior Switch.
Regardless, people who play their Switch on-the-go, and are looking to get the Switch 2 at launch in June, will have to keep their charger handy when playing.
